Javeria Khanum from Pakistan has crossed the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar to reunite with her fiancé, Sameer Khan, in Kolkata, with plans to marry in January. Introduced five years ago when Sameer saw Javeria’s photo on his mother’s phone, their love story faced hurdles as the Indian High Commission initially rejected Javeria’s visa application twice. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further delayed their plans. Undeterred, Javeria reapplied, and after overcoming visa challenges, she crossed the India-Pakistan border at Attari-Wagah. Sameer welcomed her with a bouquet and beats of ‘dhol.’ The couple expressed gratitude to the Indian government for granting the visa and hoped for a special category of visa for couples aiming to marry. They look forward to a joyous wedding with friends from various countries attending.
