OpenAI Delays Launch of Custom GPT Store, Initially Announced at DevDay, to Early 2024
OpenAI has informed its team through an internal memo that the launch of its custom GPT store is postponed until early 2024. The delay, as per the memo seen by Reuters, is attributed to the company’s commitment to “make improvements” to its Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) based on customer feedback. Initially introduced during OpenAI’s first developer conference in November, the custom GPTs and store were initially slated for a later launch that same month.
This decision comes amid other notable developments, including the unexpected removal and subsequent reinstatement of CEO Sam Altman, prompted by employee threats to resign. The GPTs in question represent early iterations of artificial intelligence (AI) assistants designed to carry out practical tasks such as booking flights on behalf of users. Additionally, the GPT store was expected to enable users to share their GPTs and earn income based on user engagement.
OpenAI’s recent announcement highlighted its intent to collaborate with organizations to generate both public and private datasets for training AI models. The company is particularly interested in acquiring data that conveys human intention, emphasizing a diverse range of languages, topics, and formats. OpenAI is actively seeking partners to contribute to the creation of an open-source dataset for training language models, with the intention of making it publicly accessible for AI model training. Concurrently, the company is also preparing private datasets for training proprietary AI models.
