Neeraj Chopra Confident in the Face of Anticipated Pressure at Paris 2024 Olympics
Neeraj Chopra, the world and Tokyo Olympics champion javelin thrower, will commence training in Turkey this week as he prepares to return to outdoor competition in 2024. Chopra expressed his confidence in his physical condition, stating that he has never felt better. Leading up to the Tokyo Games, Chopra faced challenges due to injuries, causing him to miss an entire season.
In an interview with SAI media during a short break after his training in South Africa, Chopra emphasized the importance of fitness, strength, and technique in his training regimen. Despite feeling his best in a long time, he acknowledged the distinction between training and competition, highlighting the unparalleled energy he feels when representing India.
Reflecting on his performance post-Tokyo Olympics, Chopra noted his success in various competitions, including winning medals in two World Championships, achieving a personal best throw in Stockholm, and defending his gold at the Asian Games. He expressed his desire to maintain momentum and continue performing well from May onwards.
Regarding the elusive 90-meter mark in javelin throwing, Chopra reiterated that distance is not his primary focus. While acknowledging German athlete Max Dehning’s recent achievement of throwing beyond 90 meters, Chopra emphasized the importance of staying fit, consistent, and focused on improving amidst stiff competition.
Chopra emphasized the need for continuous improvement, stating that complacency will hinder progress. As he prepares for upcoming competitions, he remains committed to refining his skills and delivering strong performances when it matters most.
