Fear of JN.1 Variant Looms Across the Country, Over 500 Cases Reported from 11 States; Five Deaths in 24 Hours
In the last 24 hours, the country has witnessed 5 deaths due to COVID. Meanwhile, as of January 2, 2024, a total of 511 cases of the JN.1 variant have been reported from 11 states. In the past 24 hours, Kerala reported 2 deaths, including one female and one male. Karnataka reported one COVID-related death in the same period. On Tuesday, Odisha recorded 27 active cases.
ANI, New Delhi: COVID JN.1 variant – In the last 24 hours, 5 deaths have occurred due to COVID in the country. Meanwhile, as of January 2, 2024, a total of 511 cases of the JN.1 series variant have been reported from 11 states. The Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) under the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) provided this information.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that in the last 24 hours, 602 new cases have been recorded, bringing the total number of cases to 4,50,15,136 (450 million, 15 thousand, 136). The number of active cases has also decreased. Previously, there were 4,440 active cases, showing a decrease of 125 since Tuesday. In the last 24 hours, 722 people recovered, and the total number of recovered cases reached 4,44,77,272.
What is the situation in other states? In Kerala, there were 2 deaths in the last 24 hours, including one female and one male. Karnataka reported one COVID-related death in the past 24 hours. Speaking of Punjab, one death due to COVID occurred here. In Tamil Nadu, one death due to COVID was reported in the last 24 hours. Odisha recorded 27 active cases on Tuesday.
Cases in these states: ICMR revealed that on January 2, 32,946 COVID tests were conducted in the country. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that as of January 2, 2024, a total of 511 cases of the JN.1 variant have been reported from 11 states. Karnataka recorded 199 cases of the sub-variant. Kerala reported 148 cases, Goa 47, Gujarat 36, Maharashtra 32, Tamil Nadu 26, Delhi 15, Rajasthan 4, Telangana 2, and Odisha and Haryana reported one case each.
