Jammu and Kashmir Travel Alert: Rain, Snow Expected in Higher Reaches Over 2 Days
Jammu and Kashmir Travel Alert: The cold wave conditions have eased in North and Central Kashmir due to cloud cover, while the mercury has dropped in South Kashmir areas. Officials have indicated that a western disturbance is anticipated to impact Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, bringing the possibility of light rain or snow in higher-altitude regions over the next two days.
Despite cloud cover improving cold wave conditions in North and Central Kashmir, the temperatures in South Kashmir areas witnessed a decline overnight. Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius on Friday night, a slight increase from the previous night’s minus 3.5 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam in South Kashmir noted a minimum temperature of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, and the famous Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla district recorded a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund reported a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, Kokernag town minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, and Kupwara minus 1.0 degrees Celsius.
A weak western disturbance is expected to influence Jammu and Kashmir between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, according to officials. This may result in light rain or snowfall in a few places, particularly in higher-altitude areas. Light snowfall is anticipated in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gurez Valley, and Mughal Road.
The meteorological department predicts an improvement in minimum temperatures due to the feeble western disturbance until Sunday, after which night temperatures are likely to fall by 1-3 degrees.
