As Any Other Desi, AP Dhillon Is A True “Brown Munda” And Begins His Day With A Cup Of Delicious “Chai”

The ascent of Punjabi musician AP Dhillon has been nothing short of meteoric, and he delves into his music composition journey in his latest interview.

AP Dhillon, along with his team comprising Shinda Kahlon, Gurinder Gill, and Gminxr, catapulted to fame with their debut track ‘Fake’ in 2019. Since then, there has been no looking back for these Canadian artists.

Their tracks like ‘Brown Munde,’ ‘Excuses’ (which went viral on Instagram), ‘Wo Noor,’ ‘Ma Balle,’ and ‘Summer High’ have solidified their position in the music industry. Creating chart-topping songs isn’t an easy feat, but for AP and his team, the song-making process commences with a cup of tea that invigorates their senses and sets them on the creative track.

In a conversation with IANS, AP Dhillon shared, “The journey of making good music begins with a cup of chai, like a wholesome cup of tea. It fills the team with energy and sets the right vibe. So, yes, chai acts as a catalyst.”

Following the chai ritual, the magic unfolds as AP Dhillon meticulously crafts beats on his Logic Digital Audio Workstation, incorporating the right sounds and textures using tools like Kontakt library and Omnisphere.

Punjabi music and language have consistently captivated a wide audience, both within the Indian diaspora and beyond. From legendary figures like Gurdas Maan and Daler Mehndi to contemporary stars like Diljit Dosanjh, Guru Randhawa, and Dhillon, Punjabi music and its language have made an impactful mark on the global stage.

Yet, Dhillon and Shinda believe that language plays a minimal role in the success of a track. They emphasize that if the music is compelling, people will embrace it regardless of the language it’s in.

AP explained, “Today, artists from all languages have equal opportunities. A good piece of music will resonate with listeners, irrespective of the language. The key factor is the melody or the beat; if they are captivating, people will enjoy it and even become interested in learning the language. As a musician, your responsibility lies in creating good music, as that’s what carries the language.”

Shinda concurred, stating, “Punjabi is easy to understand and has a pleasant sound, making it easily ingrained in listeners’ minds.”

AP Dhillon’s recent release of a docu-series on an OTT platform has particularly intrigued his fans, as little has been known about his life until now.

When asked if he deliberately keeps to himself, AP clarified, “I’m not an introvert, but I wanted to focus on my music. When I started in the music industry, I lacked a clear path to follow. Having a roadmap would have made things easier, preventing the mistakes I’ve made.”

Dhillon shared that the docu-series serves as a roadmap for aspiring artists, enabling them to learn from his experiences and make informed decisions. “This docu-series is a way to give back to the community of brown artists and upcoming talents, guiding them to make better choices,” AP concluded.

Salman Khan and Arijit Singh’s contentious altercation occurred during an awards ceremony in 2014. Subsequently, the singer issued a public apology to the Bollywood superstar.

Arijit Singh was recently photographed leaving Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai, sparking speculation about whether the Bollywood icon has finally forgiven Arijit after a nine-year feud. It’s worth noting that Arijit Singh had previously penned an apology letter to Salman Khan on social media in 2016. He implored Salman not to delete a song he had sung for Salman’s film, “Sultan.”

In his letter, Arijit clarified that he had attempted to apologize to Salman numerous times through text messages and emails but received no response. He emphasized that he had never intended to insult Salman and begged for his forgiveness. Below is the content of Arijit Singh’s apology letter:

“Dear Mr. Salman Khan,

This is the last way I thought I would communicate with you. I have tried texting and calling you, doing everything possible to convey that you have misunderstood my intentions. I assure you, I never meant any disrespect. That evening at the show, it was the wrong moment, and the atmosphere was not right. Nevertheless, you felt offended, and I understood that. I felt deeply sorry because my family and I have been your fans for a long time. I made numerous attempts to explain, but you didn’t receive them. I apologized, but you didn’t acknowledge it. You know how many apology texts I sent you.

When I came to Nita Ji’s place, I returned with the sole purpose of apologizing to you, but you didn’t grasp it. No problem, I apologize publicly now in front of everyone, but I have a request. Please do not remove the song I sang for you in ‘Sultan.’ If you wish to have someone else sing it, that’s perfectly fine, but please keep a version with my rendition. I’ve sung many songs, sir, but I would like to retire with at least one of your songs in my collection. Please don’t take away that sentiment.

I’m not entirely sure why I’m doing this, considering the possible consequences.”
